Well hello there! It’s your favorite Hearth Witch, Michele. I figured it’s time we get caught up with what’s been going on, right?
First off, I’ve been craving community for a while now. Wanting community seems to be an epidemic these days. The cost of just existing is going up and up and up while our paychecks are stagnating (unless you work tons of overtime because you’re so incredibly under-staffed) and all that stress just builds up in our systems, doesn’t it? It causes so much congestion on every level of our being that it can overwhelm us and cause us to isolate ourselves.
I was discussing this with a couple of women I’m friends with at work, Callie and Ivy, only to find they were also craving community, time with other women with similar interests that didn’t involve our corporate overlords bottom lines. Then another friend, Margie, and Callie’s cousin LeeAnne, said the same thing.
This is how Té y Chismes was born! We meet on Friday afternoons and work on what we call our Old Lady Hobbies - sewing, crocheting, card making - and we eat and gossip in community. We encourage each other to improve our skill sets, eat yummy food (it’s even better when my husband Danny is home because he cooks for us!). We also love to drink tea, unless Ivy brings horchata or hibiscus water!
This craving for community is growing and growing. I’m seeing and reading about it everywhere. I think we’ve all collectively finally come to the conclusion that we can’t continue to work ourselves to death for corporations that would have our jobs listed before our bodies were cold.
There’s a revolution coming. We, as a whole, are returning to our roots. Returning to a place where we take care of each other, where our jobs are meant to support our lives not the other way around. Coming back to the understanding that life is better when we can play to our strengths, that when we have a community to support us we can all be, feel and do better.
Danny and I are now seriously talking about downsizing some things about our life and moving off-grid. There’s a lot of people exploring this option as well, including some of the women in Té y Chismes. I feel like this is the start of moving away from our jobs controlling and eating up all of our time for shareholder gains, this feels like the start of the rebellion.
I’m here for it.
What are you craving right now? What are you feeling? Are you ok mentally, spiritually and physically?
